It's that time of year when rumors begin to fly around as the baseball off season dealings begin to make news. I've heard what some of the broadcasters think and read what some of the beat writers have speculated. Time will tell, but here are just some of the things that this loyal Mets fan is thinking about as the Hot Stove begins to heat up.
Of course Mets fans are some of the most loyal baseball fans around. They have to be...after sitting through a 15 year period of the Yankees getting all the positive headlines in New York while the Mets were relegated to late night fodder for David Letterman and Jon Stewart...they remained loyal.
As the Yankee dynasty continues to crumble (it is so wonderful to watch this happen and see entitled Yankee fans not used to anything but winning jump ship), the Mets are in prime position to take over the number one spot in the city. That is, if the organization can finally do something right.

First base is still up for discussion. Fans like Ike. Fans want Ike to do well. Unfortunately, Ike has been beyond terrible. He's had so many chances over two seasons and there comes a point where enough is enough.

Daniel Murphy may not be the most graceful or gifted athlete, but he's worked his ass off and has become a pretty good second baseman...and man can he hit. It seems like he gets a hit in almost every clutch situation. He's a keeper.
David Wright is the only true lock on the Mets that can be counted on. The organization is lucky to have a loyal class act like him as the face of the franchise. If they ever traded him, there would be anarchy in Queens.

As for the outfield. Who the hell knows. Juan Lagares looked great so he deserves the opportunity to win a starting job. As for the rest, they better get a couple of power hitters to fill those holes. The Mets' offense last season was beyond pathetic.
As for pitching, the club has some great young arms and hopefully the club won't screw this up and trade these valuable pieces, unless they get REAL value in return. Proving the Mets are cursed, they finally get a Cy Young caliber pitcher in Matt Harvey and then lose him for next season after Tommy John surgery. They do however have Niese, Wheeler and Gee who were all solid last last year. The Mets also have young arms such as Monetero and Syndergaard that could be ready to make an impact next season.

The bottom line....reports are that Alderson has money to burn and he intends to improve this ball club. Based on how lousy they've been in recent years, it shouldn't be that hard to "improve" the team. What us Mets fans want, however, is a "real" team. Get it done Sandy. Pitchers and catchers report in about 150 days.
